Moon is considered a very important and vital planet in the Vedic Astrology, though as per Astronomy, Moon is a satellite of the planet earth and revolves around it. In Vedic Astrology, Moon is the epicentre, horoscope is casted from Moon and is called the ‘Chandra Lagna'.

Moon plays very important role in human mind and your state of mind depends upon phases of Moon. The energy of Moon controls action of your mind, it is also a medium of mind which receives light from Sun in the form of rays. Your mood and ability to work depend upon movement of the Moon. The Moon signifies the mental state and energy which we have entire day. Moon is the reactive, reflective and receptive, it is our natural and intuitive reactions.

The Moon completes its cycle of phases, that can be viewed from Earth, in 29 days 12 hours 44 minutes and 3 seconds, and it is called synodic month. If you observe shape of the Moon for 15 days, then you may easily conclude that shape of the Moon keeps on changing day by day and this actually are called phases of the Moon. According to Vedic Astrology. there are two of major phases of Moon Shukla paksha (Waxing Moon) and Krishna paksha (wanning Moon). Time period for each paksha is 15 days.

As per Hindu mythology, Moon had 27 wives, daughters of Daksha, and among them Moon loved and spent time with Rohini the most. Other wives complained this to their father Daksha, and in turn Daksha cursed Moon that his power and prominence would decline every passing day. Moon, requested Daksha to take back his curse, but on advice of Daksha, Moon worshipped Lord Shiva and requested him relieve him form this curse. Lord Shiva reduced the impact of the curse and said that Moon will increase in brightness for 15 days (Shukla Paksha) and then would wane for 15 days (Krishna Paksha), with fully bright and blooming on full Moon day and would not appear on new Moon day. To console Moon, Lord Shiva promised him to carry the crescent in his hair to depict his love for Moon.

Shukla paksha (Waxing Moon):

Shukla Paksha is the period from New Moon (Amavasya) to Full Moon (Poornima) paksha is first fortnight phase of the lunar month, it is also called waxing or shinning period of Moon. In this phase, shape of Moon increases day by day until it reaches the Full Moon. Shukla Paksha is also referred to as Gaura Paksha or the period of brightening Moon.

It is also called shiny period of Moon, and is the auspicious period to perform religious and spiritual activities, auspicious ceremony like marriage, to start something new, family functions and any favourable activity during this period. It is also a favourable period for your mental and physical health.

Krishna paksha (Wanning Moon):

Krishna paksha is the period from Full Moon (Poornima) to New Moon Day (Amavasya), just after Full moon next day Krishna paksha started. As per Hindu belief, this phase is also termed as Vadhya Paksha, the period of fading Moon. As per Hindu lunar calendar Krishna Paksha is second fortnight phase of the Moon or Lunar month, it is also called wanning or fading period of the Moon in which shape of the Moon decreases day by day. You are advised not to perform any religious and spiritual activity, or any auspicious ceremony during Krishna paksha. This period is believed to bring some issues related to your mental and physical health.

As per Astrological significance, the time period starting from the tenth day of the Shukla Paksha and ending by the fifth day of the Krishna Paksha is considered to be pious and scared, this is the period which has been taken to perform and auspicious events or celebrations and rituals, like marriage, inauguration of house or shop or business etc, since the Moon is has its complete brightness and has the maximum energy to bless with expected results.

Beyond the fifth day of the Krishna Paksha, the Moon gradually reduces its brightness and energy, therefore Astrologically it is believed that this period is not suitable to perform any auspicious activities.

New Moon:

The New Moon is considered to be the weakest phase of Moon and the Moon is invisible in the sky, and this is the reason that it is also known as the ‘Dark Moon’ and termed as Amavasya as per the Vedic Astrology. Children born on New Moon have an impact of its darkness, their Sun sign and Moon sign is same because Sun and Moon are on the same line, and therefore the tuning between your mind and heart is perfect. Full Moon:

The full Moon is the bright or shining phase of the Moon and is called second phase of the Moon and as per Hindu religions and Vedic Astrology, this is termed as Poornima. It is the Waxing time of the Moon, which means that the shape of the Moon increases day by day, Sun and Moon are opposite to each other as you view from Earth, Moon reflect rays of Sun in the form blessing on the earth.

Effect of full Moon on your health and behaviour:

It is observed that you feel restless in sleep on Full Moon, you face a troublesome time, and your mind is full of anxiety or we may say that you face mood swings. This phase brings about a phase of turmoil in your mind, you tend to be under stress and not in the right frame of mind to take decisions. It is felt that the full moon tends to activate your mind and the flow of feelings form the mind in a manner that one has least control over them, it seems that the mind is working its own way, the thoughts are haywire and may have a bearing on the actions taken based on these uncontrolled thoughts. Hence, this period should be avoided to take any crucial decisions or implementation of some crucial plans as they may not yield the expected results, because the mind is not being channelized in the direction of your choice but guided by some unknown force, probably that of Moon. Better to postpone such events or decisions or plans for some other favourable period in future when the impact of Moon may not hamper it.
